Literacy Term 3

READING

In Reading this term our focus text is 'The 27th Annual African Hippopotamus Race' by Morris Lurie. We are reading and summarising chapters from the text. Through this text we are learning about challenging ourselves, doing our personal best, friendship, being inspirational and making positive choices.

After finishing the text each student will complete a book review about the text where they summarise the text, share their favourite characters, write their recommendation, draw an illustration and rate the book out of 5 stars.

WRITING

This term in Writing we have been working on Narratives. We started the term doing review lessons covering the features and structure of a narrative text using examples. Students then started working on their own stories, including an adventure story. All students have done a fabulous job completing their stories.  Toward the completion of our Inquiry unit 'Then and Now', students will be writing a histrorical narrative, placing their character in the past and including information they have learned.

SCIENCE WEEK

To celebrate Science week our Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students were treated to a fantastic science demonstration by one of our wondeful parents, Cath Shepherd.

Thank you so much the students loved everything.

Assembly Performance

On Thursday 17th of August grade 1 and 2 students were involved in a magnificent performance at our whole school assembly.

Take Home Readers

As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose up to four readers from school to take home weekly and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them the following Monday. After reading, please record the name of the book in the InitiaLit Home Reading Diary for the day.
