Year 2 Spotlight

Swimming

This term, the Year 2s are diving into the exciting world of school swimming! There were many giggles and splashes on Friday as the students took part in their second swimming lesson for the term. It was wonderful to see the students improving their water confidence and stroke techniques. The instructors at Ivanhoe Aquatic efficiently sorted the students into their levels with their expertise. A big thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to help out (mainly with the chaos of changing time!). If you haven’t signed up to help yet, there is still time. We are happy for families to meet us at the pool.

Reading

Year 2 students have made amazing progress in their reading journeys! So far this term our young readers have been revisiting their questioning skills and making exciting connections between the text, themselves, other texts and the world. They have begun to uncover the secret behind the author’s purpose, identifying whether the text has been written to persuade, entertain or inform. We can’t wait to see their love for reading continue to grow. Keep supporting them on this wonderful adventure through the magical realms of books!

Writing

Year 2s have been practising their persuasive writing skills with great enthusiasm this term. They have been learning how to use strong, emotive language to convince their peers, teachers and parents! As the term progresses, we will be learning all about information reports. We are keen to start researching and learning some amazing facts.

Numeracy

We have been practising getting ourselves out of the learning pit when tackling challenging tasks in maths. We know that being in the learning pit can be frustrating, but that there are strategies we can use to help us get unstuck.

We can:

  • Ask the teacher for help.
  • Ask another student.
  • Check the learning intention.
  • Check the success criteria.
  • Read the question again.
  • Use materials to help us solve the problem.

Can you work out how many squares in the pictures, without counting by ones?

We have been learning about multiplication this term.

  • Can using multiplication help you find the solutions?
  • Did you go into the learning pit? If so, which strategy helped you to get out of the pit?

Here are some photos of the fun things we have been doing in class from maths, to science, to B-Bots to BounceBack!
