Learning in Foundation

It has been a great start to Term 3 and was lovely seeing students return back to school with big smiles after a restful holiday break. Our Foundation students are excited for what Term 3 has in store and are showing our school value of Zest as we jump back into learning. This term brings lots of new and exciting celebrations for our Foundation students including our 100 Days of School celebration and the introduction of using iPads in the classroom.

Literacy

In Literacy this term we will be exploring text features of non-fiction texts to be able to write an information report. This will be facilitated through our learnings from our Geography unit which explores different animals and their habitats. We are continuing to master our letter formations when writing sentences and understand the importance of including correct grammatical features.

Students have been engaging with our Little Learners Love Literacy books about Pip and Tim. Throughout Term 3 we will continue to extend our skills and knowledge to decode words when reading.

This term we will introduce new heart words from our Little Learners Love Literacy program. It is important to continue practising our learned heart words at home to help support the recall of these words when reading.

Numeracy

In Term 3 we have begun exploring teen numbers. We are practising identifying, recording, and making teen numbers. We are talking about how teen numbers are made up of a group of 10 and some more. We will extend our addition skills for numbers to 20 and introduce the concept of subtraction this term. Students have also been identifying the names of 3D shapes and describing their features. We have been exploring spheres, cylinders, cones, rectangular prisms and cubes.

Geography

We are very excited to introduce our Geography unit this term which will be focusing on connecting to our world and how we can take care of it. We have begun to explore maps and be able to identify Australia and the oceans surrounding it. This week we had our first excursion to Bundoora Farm. We had a great time learning about this environment, who lives here and its purpose.
