Term 3

Week 4 and 5

Clay Houses

Grade 5 and 6 are working hard on completing their clay houses. As with real-life house building, the students are working through construction challenges and thinking through problem solving strategies when their buildings show signs of collapse or breakages. Several houses are already through the first kiln firing. Next week we will begin adding colour.

Paper Mache Masks

Grade 3 and 4 Australian Animal masks are shaping up! Take a look at some of the cardboard additions the students have added. Can you recognise the animals?

Pet Portraits

Grade 2s are adding colour and texture with a new painting technique called dry brushing. It’s a tricky skill to learn because you only need the tiniest bit of paint on your brush. Next week we add the decorations.

Junk Construction

Grade 1s are having fun with junk! The students are experimenting with ways to join and assemble bits and pieces from the Art Room’s huge collection. I have loved discussing the students amazing inventions and ideas and learning from them the endless possibilities of junk.

Foundation

We have been making our very own Very Hungry Caterpillars with plasticine; rolling tiny balls and pressing them together with our finger tips. Our fine motor skills have had a real workout! To add to our ‘stories’, we have dyed leaf shapes with food dye and added salt to create interesting effects. The colours we have created are absolutely luminous!
