Book Week 2023
Book Week takes place from August 19th-25th across the country.
This year, we will commence Book Week on Friday 18th August with our annual Book Parade. Students are encouraged to dress as their favourite book characters on the day, participate in the parade and celebrate their love of books through themed-activities.
It's a great time to start thinking about, and planning for, costumes. Please keep in mind that costumes can be created using things you already have at home, so be creative!
More information about Book Week and then Book Parade will be shared in the coming weeks.
Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) Update
We are 141 days into the Premier's Reading Challenge for 2023 - with 50 days left for students to complete the challenge. Remember to log your books on the Reading Challenge website.
Don't forget - even if students completed the reading challenge you can continue to add books. Students might like to consider setting themselves a new goal and see how much they can read before the challenge ends.
So far the PRC stats for HPS are:
- 70 students have completed the challenge (12% of the school)
- 3048 books read
- 696 book reviews
Looking for a good book to read?
Check out these book reviews from our students!
We look forward to reading more reviews that share the readers' thoughts on their chosen book, and why they think others should read it.
Keep up the great effort!
Fishy Stories Writing Competition 2023 (Fish Creek Children's Festival of Stories)
The Fish Creek Children's Festival of Stories is an annual event held in Fish Creek in South Gippsland where children’s authors and illustrators offer free workshops for the 2000+ people who attend.
Leading up to the festival, a Writing Challenge for students from Grade One to Year Eight is held. The word limit is 350 words and 20 submissions will be selected to be performed by professional story tellers at the festival on November 18 and 19. All stories will be published in eBook form by Cambridge University Press.
Information about the Festival and Writing Challenge can be found on the website, www.fishystories.org
Tips on writing stories, as well as picture book stories can be found on the website – ideas and techniques for developing stories were produced by YA and children’s author, Michael Hyde and illustrator, Craig Smith.
Submissions can be made through the website and entries close at the end of Term 3 2023.
