School Surf League

School Surf League

This year Beaumaris Secondary College was very proud to enter a team in Life Saving Victoria’s School Surf League competition which was held at Mordialloc Beach on Wednesday 27th of February.  This event is a Surf Life Saving competition that encourages Victorian secondary school students from Years 7-12 to participate and compete in Surf Life Saving events.  Students are able to compete in a range of individual and team events including swimming, board paddling, wading, beach sprint and beach flag races.

Beaumaris Secondary College was very well represented on the beach with 37 students from Year 7 and 8 taking the opportunity to compete.  For students who already compete in the sport it offered an opportunity to represent their College and compete alongside their classmates.  As students do not have to be a member of a Surf Life Saving Club it is also an opportunity for a number of students to trial or reconnect to the sport.  Our team were amazing with our students buzzing around the beach supporting and encouraging each other to have competitors and teams (sometimes multiple teams) compete in every event they could.  Amongst this great teamwork we were able to showcase some very talented athletes who had some great performances on the beach and in the water throughout the day.  We were also delighted with the support from our parent community who were on the beach with us to help with officiating duties, carnival set-up, water safety, photography and the support of our team.

We are very much looking forward to participating in the event next year with an even larger team.
