Foundation Unit / Year 1

Foundation / Year 1 News

Term 1 is coming to a close and what a great term we have had! We have hit the ground running with our reading and writing. We are so impressed that so many students are beginning to jump in leaps and bounds in their confidence, writing independently! We will be sending sight words for students to practise at home on Monday. Look out for our Compass alert containing lots of fun activities to do at home! We are continuing to work through our letters and sounds.

In Maths we have covered the topics of number, pattern and order and time. In Time, we have been focusing on days of the week and yesterday, today and tomorrow! You might like to emphasize days of the week with your child and point out patterns you might see around the house. Foundation students have been counting, ordering and recognising numbers to 20 and backwards from 10. Year 1 students have been skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s as well as reading, recognising and making numbers to 100. Here are some photos of our maths games, patterns and classroom fun!

Yesterday we had our school Cross Country. Foundation students ran one lap of the oval, Year 1's ran two laps. We were so proud of everyone's great efforts running!

We are looking forward to making our Easter Bonnets with our buddies on Monday. We would like to wish all our families a Happy Easter and look forward to seeing all students next term!
