Senior Unit

Reading- Creating News Cartoons

Recently SU3 (inspired by Mark Knight’s political Herald Sun cartoons) sketched up some spectacular cartoons based on political affairs such as toilet paper now worth its weight in gold and the Tasmanian Government considers culling kookaburras these comics and more can be seen on the window of SU3. Their comics are incredible for only a 30 minute session. WOW!  Olly SU3

Writing- Persuasive

In our class we have been doing persuasive writing about whether or not we agree that ‘All fresh produce should be plastic free'. We planned using Y-Chart, came up with three arguments we could use in the body of our writing and have talked about and used some persuasive devices such as rhetorical question, rule of 3, emotive language, exaggeration and personal pronouns. We have used models such as OREO (opening, reason, example, outro) to help us.  Taylah SU4

Maths- Positive & Negative Integers

In the Senior Unit we have been doing positive and negative integers. First we started off by simply just learning how a negative number was just an integer below the number line. Next we had to do math sums with them and experience how a negative take-away a negative was the same as adding a positive number. Have fun with your integers!  Greta SU4

Respectful Relationships

This term the Senior Unit have been learning about Respectful Relationships. In Respectful Relationships our topic is emotions. The emotions we have been learning are happiness, sadness, anger, stress and anxiety. SU3 and SU4 have been working together and learnt about Casey’s story where we were doing a roller coaster emotion chart. We also talked about what emotions we might be feeling positive emotions, mixed emotions or negative emotions and how we can deal with the emotions.  Written Jessica and Carla.

Superstars

The super senior units are doing something called superstars. Our students’ parents/siblings have been writing amazing things about their amazing kids/siblings. These are little letters or words written on a paper star, that make our students amazing. The students can look at their stars when they feel down about themselves, and then they realise that they're actually awesome. Then they cheer up.  Rachel SU3

World’s Greatest Shave

As you might have noticed around the school on Friday 13th of March some of the Year 5/6 students look a bit colourful that's because at assembly Thomas was shaving his head for the World's Greatest Shave! That's why you saw all those colourful heads. Some of the Senior Unit donated some money for the Leukemia Foundation and got their hair sprayed. Mrs Harrap and Mrs Minchew helped a lot by hair spraying everyones hair in the morning. The Senior Unit raised $200 to put towards Thomas’ venture in raising money for a cure.

My Worlds Greatest Shave

On Wednesday the 18th of March I had an interview for the Local Newspaper and it went AMAZING!!!  Mrs Minchew, my mum and I all spoke over the phone to Jess (The Interviewer) and then I had photos taken by a professional photographer, Mark!

Now I can send my hair off to be made into a wig!!!   -Thomas SU3

Thank you to everyone that supported Thomas and his venture to find a cure for blood cancer. The money that was raised will be able to help with this. The support was so overwhelming and Thomas and his family were taken back by the support and enthusiasm from all. Thank you to Maddy from Bespoke Hair & Beauty in Lancefield for doing the final shave for Thomas so that all his hair could be donated to Sustainable Salons for a wig to be made for those in need.   Kylie Minchew

FOGO

On Thursday the 12th of March the Environmental Leaders put out the FOGO bins around the school, in every double classroom, the staffroom and the canteen. It was a big job but we finished it just in time. It's one of our first steps to help the environment!

Cross Country

On Wednesday the 18th of March Prep to Year 6 competed in a whole school cross country. Prep to Year 2 did it on the oval and Year 3 to 6 did it next to Gilbert Gordon. Everyone tried super hard and did really well.  All the people that got top 5 might go to Hanging Rock for the District round. This year is the first time that the school is awarding house points to each house. If you came top 4 you got your house 3 points, for top 10 you got 2 points and for just giving it a go you earnt your house 1 point. All the houses tried really hard but congratulations to Ebden on 121 points who came first.  In second place was Dryden with 119. Chisholm placed third with 115 points and in fourth was Mitchell with 112. It was a brilliant day and thank you to Mrs Connell for all her hard work.

Wellbeing Rocks

In Term 2 as a school, the Wellbeing team we will be doing a Wellbeing Project for the whole school. Each student will be given a river stone to paint and write on. Prep through to Year 3 will write a School Value on their stone and Year 4 to Year 6 will write a positive quote.

Then all the rocks will be hidden in the garden beds and under trees.

So from now until around Mid-Term 2, we would love any donations of some river stones/rocks. You can then take your rocks to the tub in SU3 (portables) as long as they are smooth and about 5cm by 5cm in size.   Thank you in advance. If you have any questions please contact Mrs Minchew.  Amber SU2 (Wellbeing Leader)
