School Policy Updates

Student Dress Code Policy

The NPS Student Dress Code Policy was reviewed and approved at the recent School Council meeting held on the 17th October 2022.

The policy is attached for your information.  Please take the time to make yourself familiar with the policy.

There are a number of students wearing non-permitted items: baseball caps, hoodies and other non-uniform items.  We would appreciate your support in students complying with the dress code policy.  School broad brimmed hats are compulsory in terms 1 & 4.  If your child does not have a school broad brimmed hat, please order one from our uniform supplier eduThreads.

Oodies were permitted to be worn by students when we were required to have all doors and windows open and air purifiers running during the depths of Winter.  Air purifiers continue to be used, however we do not have to have doors and windows open and with the weather soon to be warming up, oodies must now be left at home.  Students are encouraged to wear layers on cooler days and bring a jacket for outside play/learning.

School Car Park Policy

The school car park policy was reviewed and approved by School Council at the meeting held on the 17th October 2022.

The policy was amended to include that students and families crossing the car park entry must do so using the zebra crossing.  There are still concerns about families waiting in vehicles for students to come to them.  Students must be walked to their vehicle by an adult at all times.

Please see the policy wording below:

NPS has the following rules in place in relation to the School car park to ensure the safety of all.

  • Students are to be walked by a parent/carer from the car park/car parked on the road to the school grounds and vice versa. Students are not to walk through the car park without an adult.
  • Students and families crossing the car park entry must do so using the zebra crossing.
  • No parking on the footpath and within one car length of the school bus parking area.
  • No parking in the designated disabled parking spot without a valid permit.
  • Vehicles with trailers/horse floats in tow should park on the roadside.
  • Car park speed limit 10km/h.
  • No overtaking in the car park or car park entry/exit.
  • Keep to the left upon entering and exiting the car park.
  • Cars to keep to the outer edges of the car park. Middle parking row to be formed upon outer parking becoming full.

Please abide by these rules to ensure the safety of all.

The school proposes that the parents of our senior students collect their children from the Newham Mechanics Institute carpark. There will be a teacher on duty after school to supervise children crossing safely onto the adjacent path.  The Crossing Supervisor is at the school crossing to ensure students safely cross into the Hall car park using the crossing. Of course, we understand that this may not be suitable for all families, nor in inclement weather conditions, however it may help to relieve some of the pressure in our car park if even some families were able to do this.
