Students taking part in the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Head Start Program over the past two weeks during Term 4. Each student has been offered work experience based on their performance in front of group training organisations.
To celebrate the 2022 FIFA World Cup, our school held the inaugural Merrylands High World Cup for Years 7 to 9. Across the 2 days, students participated in a round robin competition challenging different teams in their year group to gain points for their team. Each team represented a different country in the World Cup. At the end of the competition, each year group had a grand final with a winning team. The points from each game played in the competition were then combined across all the year groups resulting to Saudi Arabia taking home the World Cup for Merrylands High School!
Congratulations to all the students involved. Overall, the students were active, engaged and had an enjoyable time. Well done, Merrylands!
The Victor Chang School Science Award was established to celebrate young and gifted students and to inspire interest and stimulate growth in the academic discipline of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The awards are targeted at high achieving Year 11 students studying a subject of science, to acknowledge their effort, tenacity and commitment in the classroom.
Year 10 students who had participated in the Youth Summit event organised by UNICEF Australia in Term 4 were provided an opportunity to participate in an interview conducted by the Child and Youth Engagement Manager and his team. The students shared their opinions on ‘How to make more child-friendly communities?’
Our students’ responses will be a part of the UNICEF Australia Domestic Programs framework, partnership, and design. The session was interactive, and our students felt thrilled and valued sharing their opinion on such a big platform.
Congratulations to Marwa Akbary for receiving the Western Sydney Leadership Scholarship and Annalys Johns for receiving the Andrew Casey Indigenous Scholarship Award.
An awards excursion was organised for our safe respectful learners. Forty students across Years 7–11, visited Madame Tussauds and Sea Life Sydney Aquarium on Tuesday 13 December. Students enjoyed taking photos with wax figures of famous and historical people, as well as popular film and television characters. Students were also amazed by more than 13,000 individual fish and water creatures. Students are encouraged to continue earning and submitting merit certificates throughout 2023 to be given an opportunity to attend our next awards excursion.
