Year 5/6 Report

The Year 5/6s have kicked off to a great start for the final term for 2022. So far this term, the 5/6 students have inquired into facts about the planets in space and our solar system. This week they learnt a theory about how our solar system was formed. Students drafted and published a comic strip showing the steps on how our solar system was created. Students also learnt all about angular momentum through the ‘Tornado in a Bottle’ experiment, which connects to how our solar system was formed in the Big Bang Theory.

This term in spelling sessions, we have been looking into the morphology and etymology of words associated with our Inquiry unit. So far we have looked into the root words astr-, sci- and spher-. As part of our reading lessons, students have begun reading their new Literature Circle texts for this term and have started their home learning, completing their set roles.

In Mathematics, the focus topics for this term will incorporate ‘Patterns and Algebra’ and ‘Geometric Reasoning’, with the last few weeks of the term focusing on revision of all topics.
