Principal's Update
Jackie French
On Tuesday the 5/6 cohort were lucky enough to have a zoom writing lesson with Jackie French. Jackie is a prolific author who has written in excess of 100 books. The students have currently been undertaking an author study unit about Jackie so it was very timely. Jackie provided tips and tricks for writing and what has worked for her. She spoke about how valuable it is to be able to write in the real world. Not everyone will be an author but being a capable writer will help in every career. She said that while we may not realise it, the ability to write to persuade, inform or entertain will give students more opportunities going forward. Jackie also said that we have a choice in life to be kind and giving people. These are some of the themes that she writes about in her books. Hate is contagious, but so is kindness. If we had to choose one, let’s be kind. We thank Jackie for giving up her time to pass on her life lessons to our lucky 5/6 students.
Floods
Our thoughts are with those that have been inundated by the recent flooding occurring across the state. We hope all of our families have managed to stay dry and safe. The floods have caused some concern amongst our students, with students asking lots of questions at school and voicing their concerns. We encourage all families to talk with their children and reassure them about the floods. Often we can forget that children are listening to conversations and the news, which can then cause some anxiety. At times like this children need comfort, reassurance, support and to know that they are safe and being looked after. We encourage you to listen to their concerns, find out what they know and correct any misconceptions. Please be aware of how you talk about the floods when children are present and limit exposure to media coverage of the floods if needed.
Division Athletics
On Monday 10th October we had a group of students travel to Shepparton to represent Cobram Primary School at the Division Athletics in Melbourne. Congratulations to Samuel, Mariah, Willow, Isabel, Issy, Lucas, Josh, Hulaif, Tyler M., Junior, Jaydee, Ruby O., Paige R., Jaya, Ashtyn, Syakyra, Nathan, Kiara and Cameron who competed! We are very proud of their efforts with lots of personal bests achieved! I would also like to congratulate Josh and Junior for making it through to the Regional Athletics! Unfortunately, they have been cancelled due to the floods, but it is still a fantastic accomplishment to have made it to this level!
Uniforms
All students are expected to wear full school uniform, as per our uniform policy. I am asking all families to assist us in ensuring students are in uniform, including black shoes. If you require more uniforms they are available for sale at the office. We also have some stock of second hand uniforms available. Please make sure that all items are clearly named so that lost property can be given straight back to students.
Cobram Show
I would like to extend congratulations to all students who entered work in the Cobram Show last weekend. We had an impressive display of writing and artwork from the school. Congratulations to Mrs Kelly and our artists for being awarded the 'Best Large School Display 2022' and 'Best School Exhibit'. This is a reflection of the engaging and diverse Art program offered here at the school. There were also many students who completed work at home to enter in the show. Students received ribbons in a variety of sections including cooking, craft, painting and photography. We are always very proud to see our students involved in community activities and they should be commended on their effort.
Have a great week!
