Music Expo Night

The Music Department is excited to present the inaugural Music Expo Night on Thursday 17 November at 6:00pm. This event provides the opportunity for prospective instrumental students to see and try some of the instruments and learn about the ensembles on offer at Huntingtower.

Scientific studies have proven the links between participating in musical endeavours and significant cognitive development, wellbeing, executive function, and IQ. It is as if music provides an ‘unfair’ advantage to music students, by delivering significant benefits across all academic subjects. In doing so it provides leadership opportunities, a sense of belonging and community, and all whilst challenging the whole brain and whole body!

Whilst we anticipate that many ‘new-to-Huntingtower’ students and their parents will avail themselves of the Music Expo Night, we are also appealing to existing Huntingtower students who are yet to engage with the many music experiences that are available. This includes the many pianists in the community who would greatly benefit from transferring their musical knowledge and skills onto an instrument that will allow them to participate in one of our ensembles. It is useful to know that the instruments that will provide accelerated opportunities in our ensembles are brass, low woodwind, and percussion instruments.

At the Expo you will hear the Senior Symphony Orchestra as well as interact with current music students, music teachers and music retailers. The intent is that this event will answer any questions you may have about learning an instrument, being in an ensemble, and the fun that can be had making music. We will also have instruments available for students to physically hold and play to gauge their potential and suitability.

To pre-register for this event please go to this link: https://www.trybooking.com/CDJFZ

If you already have a clear idea of the instrument that will be studied through the school, then we invite you to complete a  Music Tuition Form (for private lessons) available through the school’s website. Should you be continuing  lessons through an existing private teacher but wish to register to become involved in one of the many concert bands, string orchestras or choirs on offer, then please send an email to music@huntingtower.vic.edu.au at your earliest convenience.

2023 European Music Tour

Following on from the well-attended information night and nomination processes that took place at the end of Term 2, the Music Department is thrilled to confirm that a music tour to Italy will take place in the winter holidays next year. We have forty-nine students and six staff ready to commence rehearsals in November. We were able to organise the students into a well-balanced Tour Choir and Tour Orchestra, with most students participating in both ensembles. The itinerary commences in Rome, and will visit iconic places such as Assisi, Florence, Pisa, Venice, and Verona. At each destination there will be a blend of performances, concert attendance and sightseeing over the two weeks.

Prior to the tour there will be a special farewell concert to which we encourage the school community to support. When the tour is on there will be daily updates shared with anyone who is interested via a dedicated (and password protected) blog site. It is intended that an overseas music tour will take place every two years, which may provide something to look forward to for the current Middle School students who currently or will participate in our ensembles program.
