SRC and E&R Forum News

During Week 8, the EY SRC Representatives met with Mrs Thurston and the Environment and Recycling Forum Group. The Forum Group explained and demonstrated what goes into each of our bins at LNPS. Our focus this meeting was on the Food Waste Bin, also known as “Charlie the chomper”.  Fisher and Torrens students have been recycling food waste in these bins since the start of the year. A Food Waste Bin has now been placed in every EY Learning Area too. The EY SRC Reps have since  returned to their classes to explain what goes in the bin, why we use the Food Waste Bin and how it is emptied at LNPS.

Please support our students in this new initiative.  More information on how you can recycle food wastes and more can be found on the West Torrens Council website. There are recycling videos you can watch as well as some great games to reinforce what goes in each bin with your child/ren at home.

This will continue to be a focus at LNPS.  Remember, “if it grows, it goes”.

LA 6, 7 & 8 News

Wow! We can not believe how quickly Term 2 has raced by. In LA 6, 7 & 8 we have continued our exciting learning while Mrs Saxon and Miss Ninos are enjoying the sunshine overseas. We have been working hard in our Target Time groups rhyming, counting syllables and segmenting and blending sounds. Thank you to you all at home who are helping support our Target Time learning by listening to your child read their Star Words and Readers. These, and a few more exciting learning tasks, have been put on the LA6,7 and 8 homework grid for Weeks 9 and 10. After Target Time in our Health Hustle sessions, we are learning new exercises and a dance to the ‘Sid Shuffle’ song from Ice Age. We are looking forward to sharing this with you on Grandparents Day, next term. During HASS, LA7/8 have been looking at our families and how all families are different. Students have created their own family trees, read many books about families and have been singing a lot of family songs. We really do love our families. LA6 have been exploring the places children live in and belong to, developing a sense of belonging and learning why they should look after places. We have been talking mainly about "my special place" and also the environment side of it focusing on the ocean and why it is an important place and why we should look after it. LA6 are looking forward to their excursion to the Marine Discovery Excursion also on Friday 27th June. Please remember to return your swimming consent form to your LA6,7 or 8 teacher ASAP. A friendly reminder, LA6 three-way-conferences will be held in Weeks 9 and 10 of this term and LA7/8s will be held in Week 3, Term 3. We hope you and your child/ren have had an enjoyable 2nd Term. We are so overwhelmed with the progress all students have made across many curriculum areas. We congratulate all of our beautiful learners for settling into school life as best they can. Kind regards from, LA6, 7 & 8 Staff
