In Science this term, we have been investigating push/pull forces and gravity. We began the term by exploring how we can make various toys move, such as a toy car or a train. We quickly discovered that we could push various toys, but we could also pull some of them.

Throughout the term, we have been investigating these motions more closely, and we soon discovered that many items are pulled, without us even having to do anything! For example, we are being pulled to the ground by the force of gravity.

Students investigated various ways objects move by making paper helicopters, aeroplanes, ramps, balloon rockets and parachutes. We have also been exploring the relationship between the weight of an object and how this could affect the speed at which the object moves. For example, students discovered that if we added weight to the helicopter or parachute, it would fall down faster than if it were lighter.

Below are lots of photos of our fun times in Science!

Please enjoy this video of Dimitri and Dion from LA4 explaining their understanding of push/pull forces and gravity when experimenting with the paper helicopters.

The second video shows the balloon rockets LA3 created. They were lots of fun!
