Nothing Beats Kindness – Wellbeing Day 2022

Well, what a fantastic day Wellbeing Day turned out to be!

The mood was electric, right from the start. Looking out from the music room stage, it was amazing to view the sea of students wearing rainbow colours and having so much fun dancing and participating in the many activities on offer, with friends and family.

The various workshops provided throughout the day allowed students to learn about maintaining and improving their health and wellbeing, by focussing on the elements of social, mental and physical health. Highlights included learning about the importance of mindfulness and deep breathing through bubble making and blowing with the preps, making glitter jars with the grade 3’s and grade 5 yoga with Tina from Yogamigos. The grade 1’s made worry dolls and learnt how they could use these to help when they have worries, grade 2’s learnt about gratitude and how to be "bucket fillers", and the grade 4’s pedalled the ‘Bike’n’Blend’ bikes to make deliciously nutritious smoothies. The grade 6’s learnt about the many health resources available in our community and had fun on the Casey Council 360 Youth Bus that visited at lunchtime.

The absolute highlight for the day though had to be the drumming workshops with Coffee and Simon from Melbourne Djembe. The students were totally engaged from beginning to end, with every student having an opportunity to beat out some ‘tunes’ on the djembe drums. It was dynamic, exciting, fun…… and calming! (The rhythm of drumming has been proven to regulate our brain and nervous system, calming our fight/flight response)

Many people helped make ‘Nothing Beats Kindness’ such a success. Thanks go out to Woolworths Lyndhurst for their donation of fresh fruit, Lyndhurst Primary School PFA for their monetary contribution towards the Drumming Workshops, Tina from Yogamigos, Bike’n’Blend and Lisa Howells for a delicious staff morning tea. Special mention, however, needs to go out to our amazing staff at Lyndhurst Primary School for fully embracing the day and running sensational workshops!

Thank you, everyone. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year!
