Assistant Principal's Report

Assistant Principal’s Report 16th September
Well, here we are … at the end of another busy but eventful term. The weather has been cold, wet and muddy but with hats having made a comeback, some sunny days and trees in bloom, we are reassured that spring is indeed around the corner.
We are so proud of the way our students continue to be engaged with their learning and the kindness they continue to show towards each other. We always love a chat as we walk past Investigations and some mornings have seen me order a burger or make an appointment with a doctor. We are frequently visited by students wanting to showcase what they have made during Investigations, or read to us their writing pieces and there is always a steady flow of feathers being dropped off; given to students for helping others and being caring towards a friend. In the last two weeks, our 3 to 6 students have held their Expos and what a pleasure it has been to see students’ learning on display. This week I have seen creative artefacts in the form of a cardboard piano, a Harry Potter display and many detailed dioramas.
Further to this is just how adaptable students have been when their learning has had to occur with a different teacher and how flexible our staff have been when they’ve had additional students join their class. We have always spoken about students not being mine and yours, but having collective ownership and responsibility for the learning and wellbeing of all our students, and sure enough, this is consistently being demonstrated on so many levels.
Below is a flash-back to some of the events that occurred during Term 3
- Parent-Teacher Interviews
It was such a fantastic opportunity for teachers and parents to meet face-to-face and discuss student learning and growth.
- 100 Days of Prep
Our wonderful Preps celebrated their 100 days of learning at school by dressing up as their 100 year old selves. They had a fun-filled day completing activities and a special parade in the gym with the 100 year old Mr Sharp.
- Book Week
Although I unfortunately missed the day, I was blown away by the photos I saw of our students, staff and parents dressed up as their favourite character, author or characters from their favourite book. This year’s theme was ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’. We once again extend our thanks to the PFA and local businesses who supported the day.
- Grade 4 Camp – Camp Rumbug
Our grade 4 students thoroughly enjoyed their 3 day adventure to Camp Rumbug. The camp was a combination of scheduled activities as well as free time activities. I definitely heard a story or two about the flying fox and mud run.
- Wellbeing Day
What an energetic and colourful start we had to the day and the little rain in the morning sure didn’t dampen our spirits. The theme for 2022 was ‘Nothing Beats Kindness’. Each year level ran a range of activities that students rotated through and our grade 1 to 6 students all participated in a drumming activity. We also had smoothie bikes on-site for the year 4s, yoga sessions for the year 5s and the Casey 360 Bus for the year 6s.
- State School Spectacular
A huge thank you to Mr Julian Flanagan as well as Mr McEachern, Ms Blythman, Mrs Smith and Ms Greasley, who assisted with supervision on rehearsal days as well as the Saturday performance.
- Grade 5 Woorabinda Camp
Our year 5 students departed on Monday morning for Woorabinda Camp and all reports back to us are that they are loving it. Mr Lacey is on camp as well and feeling a little achy after 6 hours of canoeing!
Footy Colours Day
To celebrate the end of term and the upcoming Footy Grand Final, we are holding our Footy Colours Day today. Students have dressed up in their favourite football team’s colours and our parade this morning showed great team spirit by all. This is a gold coin event and all the funds raised will be going towards State Schools’ Relief.
Staffing
Mr Liam Flanagan is taking a short period of leave at the start of Term 4, to welcome and settle in their second child. We wish Mr Flanagan and his wife, Emma, the best of luck and good health and look forward to their new arrival.
Last day of Term 3
Our last day of term is Friday 16th September and school dismissal is at 2:30pm.
We thank all our families for their ongoing support and understanding as we have navigated through the term. We hope our students use the two week break to rest and recharge, ready for another exciting term ahead.
School recommences for Term 4 on Monday 3rd October.
Stay well. Stay safe.
Kind Regards,
Mansi Vadera
