YEAR 9 COMMUNITY

Once again thanks to the year 9 parents and guardians who have supported their sons/daughters during the current and recent online teaching experiences.  I am pleased that the majority of students have adopted a positive mindset to this forever changing educational scenario. We all now realise the importance and value of the social and human connection to a school community that onsite learning provides.

As previously advised all year 9 students in their AVID class with Mr Conron and Ms Loe have been focussing on career pathways. Thanks to all the parents and guardians who have supported their sons and daughters in the Gordon Geelong Tertiary Futures Program application process and the completion of the Morrisby Profile.

Aspects of the The Geelong Tertiary Futures Program have begun both onsite and online, with the practical immersion experiences having to be re-scheduled for later in term three. Students have selected to participate in a series of practical sessions at either the East or City Gordon Campuses. Student had the option of selecting courses in Desktop Publishing, Hospitality, Conservation & Management, Digital Media, Fitness, Hair & Beauty, Plumbing, Allied Health, Cookery, Bricklaying, Engineering, Furnishing, Plumbing, Child Services, Carpentry and Automotive to name a few.

In week six all year 9 students will be involved in the Morrisby Careers Counselling interview process as well as Thursday 19th August being set aside for the year 9 Careers Counselling Day. More information will be provided about this day.

Lastly the planning and preparation for the much anticipated year 9 Camp on Nov 3rd – Nov 5th at “The Ranch” on the Mornington Peninsula is progressing well. Parents and students are reminded to make regular payments to ease the financial burden. We all look forward to having an enjoyable and positive time together at this horse, farm animal and adventure related camp to create some happy and lasting memories of 2021. Something we all need before this year is out.
