Beau 's (2V) collection of spheres and circles

The last two weeks have been jam packed with exciting learning opportunities. We have particularly enjoyed incursions (Melbourne Zoo has been a highlight, and our grade 3 and 4 students are meeting scientists!) The workshops run by our grade 6 students have been a highlight! We are also excited to see the passion projects that our students have been working on. Read on for more details!

Prep

The word of the week is "teacher" (last week was "beach"). You can see Isabel on our cover page today is imagining what it would be like to be a teacher. Pia and Mira have also done some amazing writing, picturing themselves as teachers - check it out in the pictures below!

The maths focus has been on place value (including those tricky teen numbers), and in literacy we have been learning to identify long and short vowel sounds.

Year 1 and 2

Grades 1 and 2 have been doing some amazing writing - using some epic writing prompts to inspire their stories. The focus has been on building writing stamina using a variety of writing techniques.

In Maths: addition and multiplication were linked to the concepts of shape and perimeter, while last week our students were navigating directional language, maps and coordinates.

Years 3 and 4

In developing their number skills and in particular automatic response and quick recall, the Year 3 and 4 students have been consolidating these skills, by revising multiplication and division.

Passion projects have given our students an opportunity to share their interests with their classmates - Harper made some delicious lemonade that we would love to try!

Year 5 and 6

Maths: Great-Aunt Bertha and Great-Uncle Boris’ Tiny Home! Our senior students have had quite a challenge, trying to squeeze furniture and appliances into a tiny space.

Writing: Our budding reporters are writing newspaper reports - but before they started their own writing they explored the features of journalistic writing by looking at Kids News articles: format, punctuation, topic specific language, sources, statistics and direct/indirect speech .

Passion project: We are proud of the work that our 5's and 6's have done to start showcasing something they are passionate about - from maths to geography to computer games (and winning strategies).

5S share how their passion projects are going:

Jiya “I’m making a video of me drawing. I love drawing because it takes you to another world. There’s no wrong or right answer with art. I’m going to make a slide show and make a video with time lapse showing how I create my art.

Mary “I am making a movie – I want to show people my progress of me developing a skill on the trampoline. I Have two videos at the moment, but I want to put it all into one video. I will include detailed steps on how to do the skill.”

Mitchell “I’m learning guitar with an app called 'Simply Guitar'. I have got a pick and I’m going to learn Bad to the Bone. My plan is to perform it in a breakout room”

Tyler “I’m playing a game called Brawl Stars – I’m going to play the game and talk about how I win the game. I might go into a breakout room and talk through what I’m doing or make a video.”

Aarav “I’m showing people how to play chess. I’ve made a movie on strategy, and I will explain how to check mate and the moves that each piece makes.”
