Hebrews 13 : 16
"Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices."
In this time of pandemic where many are facing challenges which can be stressful and overwhelming, it is reassuring to note that many of our Kildare students are offering their time and energy to the support of others in the community. Acts of service for the community are a positive way of living the truth and enable us to bear witness to Christ.
Over the year many students have assisted with a variety of service activities in the community such as coaching and refereeing younger students in sporting events, and supporting community and church groups with special BBQ celebrations. Eight of our Year 12 girls and a couple of Year 10 boys have been involved in the Vinnies Buddy program which supports vulnerable and under privileged children. Our Kildare students spend time with these children, providing positive experiences in a supportive and safe environment.
Kildare’s senior leaders are often called on to represent the College at official functions and other events such as funerals of past teachers and staff. Kildare students have also been donating time to their Duke of Edinburgh Community Service activities and we will report more about this in a later newsletter.
Year 10 student, Ella McCorry is another student who often volunteers her time in support of her school and wider community. Ella has supported our Year 12 Drama class in preparations for a Set Design major project by working with a Year 12 student to provide assistance and information on Wiradjuri art works. Ella, also uniquely decorated a pair of clap sticks for Wagga Tigers Football and Netball Club to present to Narrandera Football and Netball Club in celebration of their Indigenous round. Images of the clap sticks are provided below.
All of our students who are engaged in service thoroughly recommend other Kildare students to get involved in this sort of activity and encourage them to seek out opportunities to connect with new people, experience something different, and give back to the community.
