Dowerin Field Day

Many Year 11 and 12 students attended the annual Dowerin Field Day this week and that has been made possible in large by Ms Stringer, Mr Watt and Mr Pfitzner. There has been a lot of planning prior to this by staff and students in preparation to ensure this was a valuable learning experience.

Special mention must go to Geoff Tozer who brokered a deal with Mr Watt which allowed many of the Year 12 Farm Focus students to attend Dowerin as recognition for missing last year’s edition due to COVID.

Mr Howell and I would also like to thank all staff who have assisted in ensuring this was a huge success.

At Dowerin we had a number of students compete in both Fencing and Sheep Judging competitions. I am very happy to report that our Fencing team finished second and we had two winners in the judging and a fourth place.

I am continually reminded by students that it is not the winning or losing that matters, it is the learning. I am certain there are moments in our lives when the winning or losing does appear to dominate our thoughts, but once the “white line fever” has diminished we all share the same view, that we want to engage in activities that make us better people.

Congratulations to everyone involved including those students who trained and did not make the final team for competition. Picking teams is not an easy task and invariably we have more students wanting to compete than what is allowed. Mr Morris trained and selected the team and found no joy in leaving students out of the final competition team as everyone had practised and tried their best.

World Skills Competition

Geoff Tozer and Toby Emmett have commenced their “World Skills Competition” and we wish them all the best. Hopefully they will learn more about agriculture and make some new friendships with students having a shared passion from across our great country.
