Stay Fit and Healthy

We are at the end of Term 3 and our students have missed out on a number of great sporting events, including the annual EISM Cross Country. While we are awaiting a decision for the resumption of the EISM competition, based on health advice and levels of restrictions, it is important for students to maintain a certain level of fitness to be able to resume competition on short notice.

For some of our students, it has been difficult to find the motivation to stay fit, especially if walking the dog becomes the only activity during the week. One of the main reasons we should never stop exercising, especially now during lockdown, is that it will also help relieve any stress and anxiety. One great way to help with motivation is to set some fitness goals using a smart phone or watch to keep track of your progress.

I would encourage students to not see the lockdown as an obstacle to staying fit and healthy, but rather as an opportunity. One of the greatest basketballers of all time, Michael Jordan, said, “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it or work around it.”

Your best competitor is yourself. Set yourself a goal for walking and running and then try to improve on it every time you go out for your exercise, even if it is just a one-minute improvement on your previous effort. You will be amazed by your progress in a couple of weeks.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Although we may not always immediately see the reward for our good doings, they will come. Do not give up! Perseverance is key. I hope to see you all back fit and healthy in Term 4.
