Work experience with Victoria Police.

Hello, my name is Ajah and I was given the unique opportunity to do one week of work experience with Victoria police in the city. I was fortunate enough to get this work experience through the class Pathways to Success (PTS) and with the help of the teachers in the Careers office.

The work itself is extremely interesting because you get an in depth view of the prosecution side of our justice system. I was able to see many different types of crime and work with multiple different officers of different ranks and specialities. Most of my time was spent in the Magistrates Court where I was able to sit in on cases and trials. I was given the chance to ask questions about how our justice system works as well as getting the opportunity to talk to a judge during a short 5 minutes adjournment (break).

Additionally, whilst with my supervisors I had to talk about further education and jobs within Victoria Police. One of my supervisors for the day is a Leading Senior Constable and while talking about school I asked what university he went to. He then informed me that you do not necessarily have to go to university to get into prosecution but can work your way up through the police field, as well as the fact that you can become a police officer and get a law degree whilst working. You can both go to university and have a job as a police officer.

This opportunity was very valuable to me in considering my future. It was unique, fun and a great chance to understand the work force in this field.
