Construction Progress: New Year 7 Learning Centre

Building works for our new Year 7 Learning Centre continue to progress well. Roof framing was completed this week, and roof sheeting installation has begun. Once this is complete, construction of the internal walls will commence.

The new two-storey facility will provide 10 general classrooms, two multi-use science rooms and a student toilet block. The facility is due to be completed in Term 4 this year.

You can see the 3D model walk-through of our Year 7 Learning Centre here.

Term 2 finishing on Friday, 26 June

STEAM - What's Been Happening this Term?

Students have been busy with STEAM this term in a variety of ways.

Year 7A-E and K students participated in Molecular Gastronomy - an integrated unit encompassing Science, Food Technology and Mathematics. Students flexed their inner MasterChefs and investigated the science behind many different food techniques.  7A-C unfortunately had to undertake this during remote learning and therefore did not get to prepare their final dishes, but 7D, E and K are currently madly preparing for their tastings next week so watch this space!

Year 8 students have started to undertake STEAM - a combined Science and Design Technology unit where students design a Rube Goldberg machine, which is similar to the game Mouse Trap.  Again, some of this was unfortunately impacted by remote learning, but it is a work in progress and will continue into the year for the remaining classes.

Year 10 Electronics: Amazing Work!

Stevan R of 10E created a bluetooth robotic arm for his electronics class during online learning. The arm was created using 3D printers and a programmed Arduino Uno and can be controlled through an app on his phone.

STEAM Club News

STEAM Club is back every Tuesday in G3 and G6 so why not come along and see what we get up to!

Remote learning was a success in terms of STEAM Club as we were able to keep going using Microsoft Teams.

We connected with each other and completed enjoyable activities each week, including learning how to code.  The website Code.org is a great resource with lots of different activities if you're looking for inspiration.

In the coming weeks, we will be doing some challenges, experiments and 3D printing, including designing our own pencil holder using Tinkercad.

Anyone who is interested is welcome to come.
