Pathways and Transition
Why is Work Experience (Workplace Learning) so important?
Here are just a few of the many reasons why students are encouraged to participate in work experience:
- It prepares students for the world of work
- Their achievement is recorded on their Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA)
- They gain unit equivalents toward their WACE
- It enables students on a Training Direct or Uni-Transition Pathway to be eligible for nomination for a School Curriculum Standards Authority VET Award in Year 12.
We currently have some of our students in Year 11 and 12 completing this experience during school time. This is facilitated by InStep West.
Students can start completing WDPL in Year 10, during school holidays. Any student from Year 10 upwards can obtain a logbook from the Pathways Office.
Free Online Courses a Winner
I was delighted to hear from one of our Year 11 Training Direct students about his completion of a online course in Film making. Information was sent out to some students about how to access hundreds of free, online courses that might be of interest to them. These can also be added to their resume and portfolios.
Year 12 Interviews are coming
I will commence interviews this term with the Year 12 students. All students in Year 12 will be interviewed before they leave the College in September. These are conducted to record their post school options and support their decision making with any extra information they may require.
