Modified Interhouse Cross-Country Carnival - Father Gaetan Pereira Shield
Well done to all Years 7-10 students for competing in the 2020 Interhouse Cross-Country Carnival. The attitudes and sportsmanship displayed through all nine races was incredible. I would like to especially commend the students who chose to run the course twice and competed in the re-run on Tuesday 2 June.

Our students would not have had these opportunities without some very special people. Thank you to the college media, audio visual and ground staff who assisted with all the set up and preparations for each race. I would also like to extend an enormous thank you to the physical education staff for facilitating each of the eight Years 7-10 races.
All eyes are now on the Year 11 and 12 students. The Year 11s will race in Monday 8 June during Id Quod Volo and the Year 12s on Thursday 18 June during the assembly period.

National Reconciliation Week 2020
Although senior students were involved in exams, lower Secondary students have had several opportunities to engage with Reconciliation Week. The 2020 theme, ‘In this together’, though planned some time ago, appears particularly apt in our country and in our world.
National Sorry Day is held each year on 26 June. It commemorates the anniversary of ‘Bringing Them Home’, the report on the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. Students gathered at lunch time to make purple ‘Sorry Day flowers’, symbol of the ‘stolen generation’.
National Reconciliation Week begins on 27 May – the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum – and concludes on 3 June – the anniversary of the Mabo ruling by the High Court. One of the various lunch-time activities, organised by staff member Mrs Suesanne Sawyer, was matching significant ‘moments’ in history.
The week concluded with students making a commitment to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation – in the shape of footsteps, symbolising our solidarity - ‘in this together’. A feast of songs by indigenous and non-indigenous artists – for listening and dancing - was performed at lunch by Mr Christian Thompson, who is Head of Religious Education as well as a musician.

Year 11 News
Last week Year 11 students completing a Certificate II Hospitality were busy preparing a scrumptious selection of afternoon tea items that formed part of their unit ‘Working effectively with others’. A group of Staff members were invited to sample and enjoy and I can report it was all very delicious. Well done everyone!
