Year 9 Online Design Challenge

In the final days of remote learning, Year 9 Students were involved in an Online Design Challenge, co-offered by Greensborough College and Melbourne Polytechnic.

Students spent two days learning about the design process and using design software to develop their own inventions to assist in the interactions between Animals and Humans and produced some excellent work.

Year 9 students presented their work to their peers upon their return to school and the winning team was Sarah Cairns, Polly O’Connell, Nathan Hall and Lucy Gale for their work on designing electro-magnetic contacts that turtles could wear to distinguish between food and plastic waste.

Keep an eye out around the school in the coming weeks where many of the presentations and prototype designs will be on display.

My name is Joel Lowe and I am in 9A. Our first week back we did the Recharge and Reconnect program and completed the Online Design Challenge. This program was set especially for us because we needed to get adjusted back into face to face schooling.

The program included mindfulness drawing, goal setting, writing our Individual Education Plan's (IEP) and reflections. During this program I really enjoyed doing the mindfulness activities. I enjoyed these activities because they were peaceful.

I  also enjoyed doing a presentation with my group about the design for our invention to improve human and animal interactions.

I also liked the goal setting task because it challenged me to think about careers.

My name is Briley Butler and I am in 9A. Our first week back we did the Recharge and Reconnect program and finished The Online Design Challenge. The program helped us to reconnect to school and developed our design and team-work skills.

During this program I really enjoyed helping Ms Dunne set up the Online Design Challenge. I enjoyed it because its was funny trying to get her emails to work. I had to figure out why her emails were not working.

I also liked doing the goal setting task during the Recharge and Reconnect program. This activity make me think about what I need to focus on next.

If we did a program like this again, I’d like to do more goal setting and mindfulness stuff.
