Assistant Principal's Report

It seems strange to say Welcome Back to students during Term 2 but here we are after several weeks of remote teaching and learning back at school.

We are all very proud of how our students went during these unusual times. Keeping in touch with all teachers and also helping each other the best that we could. It is certainly a time in our work as Assistant Principals' we will always remember. It’s great to see everyone back and everyone engaged back into their work. We are also proud of how our students are adjusting to the new expectations around health and wellbeing.

Our main focus over the last few weeks of term has been to make sure all our students settle back and reconnect with school their peers and teachers. We delivered our Recharge and Reconnect Program on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th of June for all Year 7 to 10 students which included Mindfulness activities, a reflection of their remote learning time, goal-setting for Semester Two, Virtual Excursions, an Inquiry Project and other opportunities for students to collaborate with their peers. Students participated well in all sessions, presented their work and have developed actionable goals for next semester.

We are now starting to plan for Term 3 but we are still abound with a range of restrictions. Subject selections will start in Term 3 and we will keep parents and students informed through our usual channels of communications.

We are also hoping that once restrictions change we will be able to start running some of those activities that were scheduled, such as study skills sessions and sporting activities.

Last week we had the return to Footy day on the Friday which was fantastic. Great to see so many students in their team colours, celebrating and supporting their team and of course the Hot Dogs and Pizza which went down a treat.

Over the coming weeks teachers will be reflecting and writing reports based on the Term 2 Remote Learning time. Student reports for Semester 1 2020 include:

  • a description of the areas of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 taught
  • comments regarding student learning achievement and next steps, based on the Victorian Curriculum F-10 for the subject areas taught
  • an indication of how the student has adjusted to the remote and flexible learning environment.

It would be great if students also reflected on how they felt and their successes over that period of time.

Have a great holiday and spend time with family and friends safely.

Take care,

Glenn Jenner and Rose Thomson
