Year 7 - Cows Create Careers

Tom Newton, Business Manager of Maxum Animal, manufacturers of Maxcare calf milk powder, spoke with the Year 7 students on Tuesday this week. He asked many questions about their knowledge of the Dairy industry, particularly in the South-West region of Victoria. The students were very enthusiastic and were willing to try to answer his questions, especially when they realised that he was rewarding good answers or attempts to answer with beanies and pens!

The students are currently examining aspects of the Dairy Industry in Science and are completing an advertising poster in Art promoting the care of calves. The students had plenty of questions to ask Tom based on their studies so far, as well as to improve their report by discovering new information about their various topics.

Tom was totally amazed by the sheer amount of questions and the keen and enthusiastic nature of the students and their questions. He told me that he is lucky to get some students asking a question but Year 7 were relentless in their quest for knowledge and hammered him with questions for about 40 minutes! Tom sent me an email that afternoon saying "Thanks for having me today and thank you to your students for the enthusiasm and questions. I hope they got a bit out of it."

I would like to congratulate the class on their conduct and attitude toward Tom and Cows Create Careers (despite the fact that because of the threat of Foot and Mouth Disease, CCC determined that calves could not be used this year). Well done!

Year 10/11 Creswick Camp

Last week the Year 10 and 11 students went to Log Cabin Camp in Creswick with Mr Perry and Mrs Shergold. Here are some of the students highlights:

"It was great. There were lots of fun things with heights, like the giant swing".
Ben

"Camp was a great time, with great food and activities. It was also a good opportunity for us to merge and interact with students in different year levels, and face some challenges and fears for people and build our team work skills."
Jorja

"Camp was great fun, building the giant slingshot required exceptional teamwork and practical skills, the giant swing was adrenaline inducing and enjoyable, the milk crate stacking required precision and effective teamwork and watching movies with one another was wholesome and enjoyable."
Kristian

"The camp was good. It was fun to get away on a short quick camp. The food was great, the homestead we stayed in was very nice and we had some very good camp leaders."
Eliana

"We watched the first two Lord of the Rings movies, which was cool because I was rereading the series at the time."

Acapella Club

Our newly formed Senior School Acapella Club is in full swing. They are currently working on two items, 'Try Everything' from Zootopia and 'Wellerman'. A big thank you to Penny Bolton for organising these sessions for our students. A special mention to her enterprising Year 7 son, Ben, who has also played a key role in organising the group.
