Lion's Club Junior Interschool Public Speaking Competition

On Monday 1st August, four students represented King's College at the Lion's Club Junior Interschool Public Speaking Competition. It was a close contest but King's students ultimately won both the Year 3-4 and Year 5-6 awards. Congratulations to all of our representatives who performed magnificently on the night. Special mention to Albie for winning the Year 3-4 award and Sienna for winning the Year 5-6 award.

PMP (Perceptual Motor Program)

The Preps, Year 1's and Year 2's have been enjoying PMP (Perceptual Motor Program) as always. We have fun practicing our gross motor skills, fine motor skills, balance and coordination through different activities each week. This week, we challenged our balance by safely moving over a seesaw and distributing our weight to make the other side fall.

Prep

We have had so much fun learning about shapes in Maths! We cut out shapes to make our own picture of a bus, and we created a big class bus too!

Year 1

"When we go to Gymnastics we go on the bus. It is very fun to look out of the bus and see the view. The bus is so long and it turns wildly, like a truck!
We take off our runners and socks and put them in a box.
We sit on the floor and do some warm ups and tricks. We do fairly hard stretches.
It hurts when you try to touch your feet on your head!
We climb up ropes, balance on beams, run and jump like an obstacle course.
At the end we play hide and seek and it is so much fun."

Year 2

The amazing Year 2 students have been having fun at gymnastics. They have also been enjoying some fruit loop maths and learning about the healthy food pyramid.

Year 3

Year 3 students have enjoyed learning about one another's interests through daily sharing, respectful listening, reflection, and question and answer time during 'Show & Tell'.

Year 4

Winter has brought massive winds, lots of rain and Gymnastics for Year 4! Everyone who attended had an amazing time. A big thank you to Miss Stephen and all the other staff who organised and supported the Junior School students attending the Warrnambool Gymnastics Centre. Our class has also been researching inquiry based questions around the Commonwealth Games. Some of the inquiry questions include: "What motivates people to compete in the Commonwealth Games?" and "Who benefits from having the Commonwealth Games?" Along with our inquiry, students have been working hard to produce their best creative narrative writing.

Visual Art

The Year 5 students have completed art pieces in the style of Andy Warhol's pop art. They each chose a simple repeated image which they coloured with bold, bright colours in different ways before arranging them altogether in an attractive way. The students learned about looking at opposite ends of the colour wheel to find contrasting colours to be most effective and make their artwork "pop".

Reading

This term we have started reading books online from Epic. This site has a wide variety of online books and audiobooks of different levels and interests. I've even had students who aren't keen on reading, asking to read!

Year 6

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
Psalm 24:1

Our students are passionate about taking care of our environment. Some of the ways that they do this are picking up rubbish and putting it in the bin (even if it isn’t their rubbish!) and by using our FOGO bins. Our Year 6 students manage this compost initiative and do a great job in encouraging the kids to dispose of their rubbish wisely. Miss Hazeldine has turned this into a competition and a weekly trophy is up for grabs. Well done Junior School students for your care for God’s creation!
