Reading
This tern sees us continuing to develop independent reading abilities and stamina.
through the Reader's Workshop. An opportunity for them to explore the stories and authors they love best.
Children will also explore several key areas of reading, such as a focus on poetry, to examine techniques such as metaphors, similes, repetition, rhyme, meter and pace. We will also explore techniques and style via undertaking author studies to compare and contrast styles.
Children will also continue to engage in Book Club. Discussing not only the book they are reading, but delving deeper into their understanding and preferences.
Writing
We continue to use the Writer's Workshop as a platform to allow children the flexibility to write about what they like and are interested in. Lessons will focus on differing aspects of writing, such as:
'Planting Seeds' - how to stockpile ideas to give them material to develop at a later date.
Developing those ideas via the use of visual organisers or planning to create a structured base from which to write. Vocabulary, how to create and use a bank of adjectives and adverbs, as well as character traits in order to improve the detail of the writing. Revising, how to reread their work in order to improve their writing via VCOP to assist them. Editing, how to proofread to find errors, mistakes and inconsistencies.
