CBCA Book Week

Each year since 1945 the Children's Book Council of Australia has brought children and books together across Australia through CBCA Book Week.  During this time we spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. This year's theme is 'Dreaming with eyes open...' acknowledging Australia's First Nations People and their rich story based culture. Students across Belmore are all enjoying engaging with many of the 2022 shortlisted books, this year selected by our student leaders.  The Book Week Dress Up Event is an important event on our school calendar, a wonderful opportunity to 'dream' of being a book character for the day.

Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Once again this year, all families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Friday 26th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi and Greek.

Child safety and wellbeing at Belmore School: information for families and the school community

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

As a school community we are currently reviewing and updating our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

PBS - Expected Behaviours Survey

JUST A REMINDER THAT THE EXPECTED BEHAVIOURS SURVEY IS DUE BACK THIS FRIDAY 26 AUGUST.

How Do We Start?

All school staff have had an initial induction to the framework and as a whole school community we need to decide on our schools’ 3 or 4 positive expected behaviours from which all other behaviours can be addressed.

The aim is to survey staff, families, and students to decide which positive expected behaviours are the most important to our school. Once we have our expected positive behaviours, we can start to promote these through strong visuals, constant modelling, and explicit teaching. A survey link and hard copy will be sent home to families via a BSC email next week with the opportunity to select your top 5 choices in order of importance (1 being the most important).
