Book Week 2022

Book Week 2022, is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate books and reading in our lives.  The Children’s Council of Australia has been celebrating Book Week since 1945, with the first awards in 1946. The annual CBCA Book of the Year Awards aims to:

  • promote quality literature for young Australians;
  • support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of children’s books and;
  • celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature.

At Lockleys North Primary School, we value books and reading and know that the volume and variety of texts our children read, greatly impact their levels of reading comprehension.  Reading comprehension is directly linked to academic success and thus increasing our student's ability to comprehend text is our main goal.

So how can we go about accessing many varied, engaging texts for our children to enjoy at home?  Book Week is a great time to visit a local bookshop for your child to choose a new book from the nominated list of books.

Book Week 2022, will be celebrated during Weeks 5.  On Wednesday,  24th August beginning at 9:00 am, the Book Week Parade will be held in the Gym.

Please note that this is a dress-up parade based on a book of choice.  Be creative and put together a costume with your child from found items,  it does not need to be a commercial costume.

Due to COVID Guidelines and restrictions, parents/caregivers/family members will not be able to attend. Managing the logistics of an inside event to meet DfE COVID Safe requirements is too difficult.  Due to this, we will be streaming the event as we do for Assemblies. The link will be emailed to families on Tuesday 23rd August.

On Thursday, 25th August from 1:45- 3:00 pm, the dreaming with eyes open electives will take place across the school.  Students will choose one activity from a creative selection of electives and participate in cross-age R-6 groups during the afternoon.

We are looking forward to celebrating a successful Book Week.  If you have any questions regarding the Book Week 2022 plans please contact the Front Office.
