Girlosophy

Since returning from remote learning, some of our Year 4/5 girls have found social interactions with their peers challenging.
As a school we tried to manage the situation but found we needed some professional help. As a result, I employed a company, 'The Human Development Workshop' to conduct their program called 'Girlosophy'.
Girlosophy is a groupwork program for Primary School aged girls around friendships, self-esteem, body image, 'frenemies', etc. The girls participate in a weekly group and as part of the group develop activities to run to reinforce the messages and lessons learnt in the group. The program finished with a family forum.
Below is a reflection from two of our Senior girls, Nikki and Mackenzie of their experience of Girlosophy.
Kind regards

The Year 4/5 girls participated in a program called Girlosophy. During the Girlosophy program we played lots of fun games and activities to strengthen our friendships and relationships with each other. We had teachers named Kate, Jane and Sasha who would come in and teach us strategies to use to maintain and make new friendships. Last Tuesday, we had a family forum that told all of the parents about what we have been doing and a few tips for them. In the first lesson, we were taught about animal behaviour such as Fox (passive-aggressive communication), Crocodile (aggressive communication), Mouse (passive communication) and the best one that we should all aim to be, a Dolphin (assertive communication). We learnt “I feel solutions” in the dolphin behaviour. We had to say how we felt then come up with a solution that we both agreed on and then move on. Hopefully when we are out on the yard we remind each other of these and try to find solutions when we have disagreements or when someone is showing specific behaviour that is not okay. Everyone enjoyed the program and learnt a lot about friendships.  - Nikki & MacKenzie
