Principal's News

Where every child is known, challenged and supported to be lifelong learners.

Dear Parents and Friends

I hope you have had a great week and have stayed warm. The sun did come out for a little while early in the week and teased us with some warmth but then we were back into chilly days.

ST BRIGID'S LITTLE LEARNERS PLAYGROUP

We are very excited to let you know that our newly formed playgroup will have its very first session on Monday (1st August) next week. See the flyer below. We are so looking forward to welcoming children to our playgroup, which will give them an opportunity to socialise and play with new and old friends. It will also be a lovely opportunity for our parents and new friends to meet and catch up with each other over a coffee. If you have friends with preschool children they are more than welcome to join our playgroup.

A very big thank you to all families who have kindly donated toys for our playgroup - it is very much appreciated. We also appreciate all the words of encouragement and offers to help out.

CONFIRMATION

What a lovely night we had on Thursday last week to celebrate our Year 6 students Sacrament of Confirmation. It was so great to see our church full of families and friends who were there to support our students after two years of restrictions. It was nice to welcome Bishop Tony Ireland who led our celebration.  A big thank you to Fr Andrew and Fr Hoang who were also there to support Bishop Tony, our staff and families.

I would like to thank the Year 6 teachers - Annemarie, Arch, Hannah, Heather and Zoe who prepared our children so well and Jodie Marziano who planned the Mass and all the many other details involved in the Sacrament. I would also like to thank all the staff who attended Confirmation - it was great to see so many of our staff there.

COVID UPDATES

Just a reminder that we strongly recommend our children and teachers wear masks, especially in the classroom where social distancing can be difficult. Teachers can take their masks off if they are explicitly teaching. If a child is a close contact (a family member has tested positive for COVID) they must wear a mask at school and in before and after school care (Team Kids).

ASSEMBLIES

Due to the number of COVID cases in our community and the small number of cases at school, we will be recording our Assemblies for the next little while. The advice given is we should not gather as a whole school. With the health and safety of our school community in mind, we are limiting the whole school getting together.

F-4 SCHOOL DISCO

We postponed the F-4 school disco due to the number of covid cases in the 1/2 area. We are hoping to have the disco later in the term - we are looking at Friday 9th September, but of course that will be dependent on Covid numbers.

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES

Our student led conferences were held on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was a lovely time where the children could share their work with you and celebrate the successes they have had during the semester. The children enjoyed getting their work together and were very proud to show you what they have been working on.

GIRLS SOCCER TEAM

Our Year 5/6 girls soccer team played in the District Soccer finals on Tuesday and they played so very well. They won the first game 3-0 and they lost the second game 2-1 in the last minutes of the game.

They only missed out on the finals by a small margin.  We are super proud of you all!

BOOK WEEK

Book week is coming ……..starting Monday 22nd August through to the 26th August finishing with a Book Week parade, so get your thinking hats on about what costumes you might like! The teachers have already planned their costumes!

BOOK WEEK COMPETITION

This year we have decided to have a Book Week competition. What we would like you to do is:

  1. Choose a book that you enjoy.
  2. Recreate the front cover using any medium you like (paint, pencils, clay, lego etc).
  3. Take a photo of your artwork and send it to cyass@sbmord.catholic.edu.au

We will then display the artwork on the hall windows.

There will be a prize for F-2, 3/4 and 5/6.

We are looking forward to seeing as many book covers as possible.

See some examples below.

BOOK FAIR - HELP WANTED

Our annual St Brigid's Book Fair will run during Book Week.  It will be open Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th of August. We are looking for parent helpers to assist with the Book Fair both before and after school.  The Book Fair will be open from 8:00am to 8:30am in the morning and from 3:15pm to 3:45pm in the afternoon.

If you can help please email Glenn in the library - gstewart@sbmord.catholic.edu.au or call the office.

CONGRATULATIONS AIDAN D

A big congratulations to Aidan D who played in the State Championship competition for squash last weekend. Aidan came 10th overall, what a mighty achievement. See the student newsletter next week  for an interview with Aidan.

PARENT REP COORDINATOR FOR THE P&F

We are very lucky to have had Jen DeJong and Jess Elliot  as our Parent Rep Coordinators for the previous few years. Jen and Jess are stepping down from this role so we are seeking expressions of interest in the role. It is a role that could be shared. The duties would include co-ordinating the parent reps throughout the school with fundraising events and liaising with myself on a regular basis. As a school community we rely on parent support in these areas.  Please contact me to discuss the role.

ENROLMENTS

It's not too late to enrol for 2023.  Please spread the word to your family and friends.  School tours are available.  Contact the office to book a time.

Wishing you all a great week and enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Yours in partnership

Wendy Sullivan
