Georgina Manning and KidsROAR Education
We had a wonderful evening last week with Georgina. Here are some quite take away tips for parents from the session. Attached also are handouts that will guide parents when supporting their children with anxiety. If you wish to receive a hard copy of these please email rwinduss@saseaford.catholic.edu.au and I will send them home with your child.
5 Strategies to help children:
Chill Out time: Give your children time to just play and be in the present moment. All of their time after school doesn't need to be taken up by hobbies. Let them be in their flow.
Non Avoidance: Use a stepped approach to support children with things they are worried about. Avoiding them is not helpful
Reflective Listening: When we name an emotion we tame it.
Calm Body and Brain: Mindfulness and Grounding techniques
Helpful Thinking: Reflecting on helpful thinking and non helpful thinking
Please see the links for handouts
Over the next couple of weeks all of our students will be attending a session run by KidsROAR. There are 2 main themes for all of the sessions, these are:
Theme 1: We all have the right to feel safe at all times.
Theme 2: We can talk about anything with someone we trust, no matter what it is.
Students will learn to
Recognise feelings and warning signs of when they feel unsafe
Own their body and understand it belongs to them
Assert use the 'No Go Tell' strategy
Report and identify their trusted adults who they can talk to about their feelings
If you have any questions please refer these to Sally Thomas or Rikki Winduss.
