UNIVERSITY FOCUS

LA TROBE UNIVERSITY

If you do not get the ATAR you need to make it into your dream course or don’t meet the prerequisites – La Trobe’s guide will help you find the most suitable Plan B.

The new education pathways

The new Diploma of Teacher Education and Associate Degree of Teacher Education both provide a pathway into a La Trobe accredited teaching degree. Students will study alongside Bachelor degree students in the same subjects and have the added bonus of a Student Advisor to help them choose their subjects and navigate university.

Either pathway course is appropriate for students who:

  • haven’t met the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Education (Primary) or Bachelor of Education (Secondary), this could be ATAR or other conditions like prerequisites
  • didn’t complete the Casper test in time.

Students can preference both courses within their preference list for example:

  1. Bachelor of Education (Primary)
  2. Diploma of Teacher Education
  3. Associate Degree of Teacher Education.

Low ATAR, high passion

Torrens University have always believed that ATAR is not a true representation of a student’s future success, so they removed it as an entry requirement. They know that each individual student’s strengths, talents and passions are a better indication of how they might succeed in higher education.

What to do if you get a low ATAR

Strong evidence has shown that an ATAR score does not provide a full picture of your ability to succeed. Our new entry requirement is a Year 12 certificate* (or equivalent) but we also offer other ways to enter university, including a diploma to bachelor’s pathway, creative portfolio applications and interviews. Torren’s believe passion unlocks potential, which is why they consider the experience, skills and drive you bring to the table, building on your abilities from there.

An education with Torrens University helps to set you up for the future by focusing on your personal capabilities and goals and providing practical steps to get you into a career you love. Our holistic view and support network can put you onto the path to success – however you define it.
