A short message from Dr Jake
Dear Parents & Friends,
In the words of Michael Buble... "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas..." Our school is decorated with Christmas trimmings, students are (excitedly) handing each other Christmas cards and the traditional end of school year activities are unfolding in front of us. I must say, it's one of my favourite times of the year. Besides the Christmas festivities, it's that time of year where we reflect on the events and activities undertaken throughout the year as we worked toward the achievement of our goals. And, despite the restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, St Edward's has had an outstanding year (more about that next week!).
In the meantime, as we celebrate this season of advent, let's look ahead to our final week of school.
This week began with the releasing of our student report cards, our Year Six students enjoyed their transition day to McCarthy Catholic College, our "virtual" presentations were launched showcasing the year of learning and the annual class awards bestowed. Our moving up day tomorrow denotes the transition from the 2021 academic year to the new 2022 school year.
Our Year Six team have a big few days in front of them before they finish their time at St Edward's. Beginning with confirmation on Sunday, Year Six have their Graduation ceremony on Monday, followed later in the day with the traditional Year Six luncheon. Later that night the first Year Six Family Dinner will be held at Blazes, West Leagues Club. A special time where we farewell the families leaving our school.
Our final day for students is on Wednesday 15 December and, working up to the last moment, our staff have two days of professional learning to finish the school year.
While all these end of school year events are being rolled out, our staff are continuing to provide quality instruction, making the most of every moment to improve your child's learning. Teachers are PM benchmarking to measure reading growth, assessing sight words, targeting maths gaps as they continue to ensure our students are ready to access next year's curriculum. Remember, going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day.
Next Thursday will be our final newsletter for the year. In addition to some important information for next year, I will be sharing the full 2022 staffing update.
Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us as we are only too happy to help.
Peace & Best Wishes
Dr Jake Madden
