 ADFA Education Award

The Australian Defence Force Academy Education (ADFA) Award is given to applicants who have displayed strong academic ability throughout Year 11, participated in a range of extracurricular activities and exhibited leadership potential throughout the defence force recruiting process.

The winners are presented with an award, iPad and an ADFA plaque for their school. It is available to all those applying for a position at the Australian Defence Force Academy.

I applied for the General Service Officer and Maritime Warfare Officer roles and progressed through the 3-stage process of interviews and psychological assessments. The final stage was the Officer Selection Board, which was held in Canberra over several days.

Through this process I was successful in both receiving the award and a letter of offer for the General Service Officer role. I will be initiating my ADFA study early next year, which will involve the pursuit of an Arts degree with a major in International and Political Studies and simultaneous military training.

National Design Competition

Swinburne University hosted a challenge aimed at those who were interested in undertaking their Product Design Engineering degree in 2016. The challenge was to submit a page of sketches which illustrated an innovative secondary purpose for a plastic bottle or container.

My submission was an eco-friendly self-watering herb planter aimed at Melbourne's cafes. It utilises the hundreds of two litre milk containers and kilograms of coffee grounds thrown away each week to grow herbs for use in cafes.

I was extremely humbled to win the nation-wide people's choice award for my design, as well as first place in Victoria.
