Global Connections

In this day and age distance means very little. We are regularly connected to students from other countries for different reasons and via different mediums.  This term our students have had the opportunity to meet with a range of visitors from overseas.

We hosted two large groups of Vietnamese teachers, Principals and Business people who requested visits. They were especially keen to hear about ICT at Kew, to discuss management and to look around our environment. They interacted with a number of students as they visited classes and they provided very positive feedback.

We also hosted the 16 students and two staff from Le Hong Phong, our sister school in Vietnam. The students attended some classes in PE, Food Technology, Art and ICT and they elected to engage in other classes depending on their interests.  They went on excursions to Healesville, Melbourne University, Latrobe University, the Aquarium and the Museum and wandered around the city centre. Their host families also ensured they saw many other sights. They commented on how warm and welcoming everyone was and how much they enjoyed their experiences. We thank those families who were prepared to be hosts, for their time and effort.

The Japanese students from Soja Nishi Junior High School came to us from 31 July to 8 August and attended classes with their buddies. The farewell dinner and entertainment was a resounding success and a fitting end to the visit. They had a great time at school and with their host families. They left with a few tears in their eyes and a lot of good memories. We look forward to sending a group of our students to Soja City in 2016.

At the end of the year students are heading off to Peru as part of the World Challenge. They have been raising funds with activities such as the Trivia night, which was well attended and through which they managed to gather together some $6000.

Our students learn so much from these interactions and activities.
