Principal's Message

Mr Forrest

Well you wanted a fast exciting finish to 2021?

Well its very hard to believe that it is only roughly a month until Christmas?  The hectic nature of the final weeks of Term 4 at Wedderburn College  continue. We have many, many exciting activities and events to finish the year with.

School Camps

A huge thank you and well done to all students and staff who attended the Year 3/4 and Year 7/8 Doxa Malmsbury Camp last week. It was great to visit the camp on the Wednesday, seeing all the smiling faces and the courage displayed attempting the rock climbing wall including the table tennis skills and special tricks on the trampoline.  Mr Lockhart, please read the rules on the trampoline use next time!

Prep to Year 2 Special Event

On Thursday 18th November all Year Prep - Year 2 students enjoyed a fantastic late school activities and BBQ tea.  A huge thanks to all staff members who stayed and participated in the event and organised some special activities for the children.  The year 2 students were lucky enough to have a special excursion on the Friday too many special hidden gems around the Wedderburn township and district.

Year 11 Deb Ball This Friday

The Deb Ball has been 'off again and on again', so it is pleasing to announce that it will take place on Friday 26th of November.

Please understand we will be operating under strict COVID and Health Guidelines, therefore entry to the Deb Ball will be managed accordingly i.e. QR coding, proof of full vaccinations.    Indoor events will remain subject to the obligations such as caps and density quotients. All eligible adults 16 and up must be fully vaccinated.

We have to adhere to the Community Health Rules and we have no way of changing or bending them.  If you cannot comply with these rules you can have your ticket fully refunded.  You will be asked on the night to provide proof of vaccinations.

School Fees

All families will have received very detailed information on School Fees, Resources and Booklists for 2022. There are a few major changes occurring for Wedderburn College students in 2022. Some of the following changes will be:

  • Students from Prep – Year 6 will have stationary purchased for them by the classroom teacher.  These resources  will be kept at school and distributed by the homeroom teacher.
  • Students from Year 7 - Year 10 will be provided with a basic individual stationary pack and distributed at the start of the year.
  • Students in Year 11 and Year 12 have the option to request a basic stationary pack or purchase their own supplies.
  • Senior textbooks can be borrowed from class sets or students can choose to purchase secondhand or new books if they want to highlight or write notes in their own personalised copy.
  • The provided resources will be paid for as part of school fees, parents will not have to deal directly with Wattle Office Supplies.
  • The voluntary fees and charges are clearly explained in our Information Letter, see below.
  • Students and families will be required to pay for all optional camps, excursions and the school magazine separately.

Computers @ Wedderburn College

As previously mentioned please do not send any iPads and tablets to school or purchase one as a Christmas present for use at school.  We will not be using these devices in classes apart from our Junior P- Year Two classrooms which will be provided by the school.

As a school we are actively sourcing to bulk purchase devices for Year 3 - Year 6 students for 2022 at this stage the devices will be based at school.

We actively encourage families who can afford to purchase a laptop computer to do so in Year 7- Year 12.   For students in year 7 - 12 who cannot afford to purchase a device we will be distributing entry level devices for students to use at home and at school.   If you do not have a computer as a secondary student there will be an option to borrow from the school for the year.  There will be a user agreement signed between the students/family to lease this device however any damages will be the students expense.

We encourage families who can buy a new laptop/computer at Christmas to do so and we will support the machine with tech support at school.  However do not bring an ipad or tablet to school they will not be supped anymore.

D is for Donut Day is Becoming Very Big!

Thanks to everyone for their Donut orders. The Year 11 Business Management Class will have donuts for distribution and preordered toasted sandwiches on Wednesday 8th of December at recess. To make the day even bigger we will have a 'D is for Dress Up' day as well since we have missed out on dressing up this year for book week.  We will have a dress up parade at the start of the day. So please wear your favourite character's outfit and join in all the fun.  Furthermore, Mr Lockhart will be supplying a free lunch to students on the day as well as previously promised.

End of Year Arrangements

Student's final day of formal classes will be on Friday 10th December.  All school reports, books, lockers emptied and any other items will be sent home on this day with students. Please ensure your child/ren has extra carry bags on that day.  Families who require students to attend in the final week of the term, can only do so on Monday and Tuesday where supervision will be available.  Teachers will be working on a completely different timetable and may not have normal classes as all staff members will be involved in training activities throughout the week as per our yearly calendar.
