It has been so fabulous seeing the students re-engaging with Visual Art these last couple of weeks after a long absences from the studio and a staggered return to their normal schedule.
While in the studios, students have been thinkers in creating their own Messenger Birds as part of Remembrance Day activities. Students used these birds to create a caring note to someone they missed. Some students chose to write to loved ones they have not seen due to Melbourne's lockdown restrictions, while other students chose to write to friends they missed. All students were open minded when completing this task allowing them voice and agency over their work. These gorgeous creations can be seen floating above the Visual Art Studios allowing students to reflect on the pieces created by their peers and show empathy toward others.
This week students also took the opportunity to communicate their learning through their art creations. Students had the opportunity to recreate their favourite piece of art from this year so that families could purchase the artwork as part of the fundraising calendar. As you can see from this week's work these pieces were creative and full of student knowledge of the art elements, principles and techniques taught this year. Students had to make principled choices throughout this process to ensure they completed their tasks in a timely manner. They engaged their problem solving skills in adapting their work for the purpose and audience allocated. Many students used this opportunity to reflect on the work completed in their Visual Art diary and recall the skills they had learned. In recreating these pieces students were given the opportunity to present their work to us and express their ideas using the Visual Art language taught this year. Being open-minded throughout this task allowed students to see that others interpreted the skills and techniques differently to them, creating a series of work that showed student voice and choice in action, as can be seen below in the creative interpretations by 1I.
Well done to all students!
