Respectful Relationships

Written by Stephanie Day and Sarah Grenfell

This fortnight, the Prep, Year Three, Year Four and Year Six students attended an incursion run by Bully Zero. All sessions covered different topics and were tailored to each year levels specific needs.

The Prep students enjoyed their Bully Zero incursion where they discussed the idea of creating a world free from bullying. They explored the definition of bullying and shared some wonderful ideas of how to be a good friend by showing kindness to each other. They celebrated the differences that make up the Saltwater family and talked about being open-minded and respectful when differences arise. The students fully enjoyed this incursion and we look forward to many more next year.

The Year Three’s enjoyed a morning with the team from Bully Zero looking at Cyber Bullying and keeping safe when online. Students had quality discussions based on what is bullying, and examples of it, as well as looking into the different apps they use and the permissions for using them. Both the guest speakers were a fantastic resource for students, and shared allowed students to share their own stories from personal experience. Students will now be able to take these new found skills to live in an ever changing world.

The Year Fours Bully Zero incursion focused on defining what bullying is and what it is not as well as how bullying can impact a person. Students learnt about bystander and upstander behaviour as well as the difference between the two. The Year Fours were able to discuss strategies they can use for dealing with bullying behaviour and are encouraged to create a world that is free from bullying.

The Year Six students discussed the emotions and feelings associated with transitioning to secondary school. They identified the challenges and brainstormed strategies of how they can overcome these challenges. The students also inquired into different personalities and how it is important to remember that we are all unique and that everyone has the right to be treated with respect. They also explored the difference between conflict and bullying and what this may look like in the school setting.

We hope that the students enjoyed these incursions and we look forward to reviewing this content as part of our Respectful Relationships lessons.
