Dear Prep Families,
The Prep team are very proud of our students and how they have progressed with their learning journey. They have overcome many obstacles this year and have continued to show resilience, adaptability and growing confidence in their learning each day!
The Prep students are inquirers and are currently exploring the ‘going further’ phase of the Inquiry cycle, investigating the Central Idea ‘Journeys are to be celebrated and explored’. The students continue to make connections with themselves and others and the journey they are on. They are growing in knowledge and have been sharing connections with their journey as a celebration of learning, growth, experiences, travel and changes to name a few.
Last week, we celebrated Book Week at Saltwater College. The students were very enthusiastic to dress up as their favourite book characters on Book Day and were engaged in the process of making a class text innovation across the school week. The students demonstrated creativity as they explored the craft of writing and the writing process, writing like authors and creating images and artwork, just like an illustrator of a published text. The students took pride in themselves and were reflective with their writing goals to support their intrinsic motivation to further develop their skills and knowledge of spelling, high frequency words and the writing structure. We are all so proud of the progression we have seen in our students and we are excited for them, to showcase their learning in their upcoming three-way-conferences.
The students have been exploring a range of non-fiction texts in reading, exploring a range of journeys, such as those of animals, looking into how animals move from place to place or change throughout their life, deepening their understanding of what a journey is. The students have explored the key concept; Causation (Why is it like this?) and have shared their knowledge and text-to-text and text-to-self connections. As the students read to you at home, they are encouraged to continue to take action by inquiring into a range of journeys that they are curious about, sharing their new understandings with you at home and with their peers at school. This supports the building of a curious community of learners.
In Mathematics, the students have extended their knowledge of the language associated with location and they are connecting this knowledge when creating maps to map their journeys. They were challenged to be thinkers, using the map guide of Fairy Park, from our amazing excursion, as well as linking their knowledge when going on a range of journeys around our school and school environment to create maps and to think about the language of location such as left, right, forward, back, across, under, over, through and around as they plot their journey.
As a school community, we are looking forward to our three-way-conferences in Week Nine. It has been a very big year for the students and we value the partnership in which we work with students and parents. We look forward to celebrating your child’s learning journey with you.
As the festive season approaches, we encourage all Prep students to continue to practise singing their Christmas carol to you at home. We encourage all families to get involved too! We love hearing that our community are singing along with our students. We are beginning to practise our dance moves too! Watch this space!
Reminders:
-All students are encouraged to apply sunscreen daily and wear their Saltwater College sun hat in Term Four.
-Prep, Year 1 and 2 Mini Olympics will take place on Tuesday 23rd November. All students will be required to wear their sports uniform on this day.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
The Prep Team.
