Songlines 2021 with Nancy Bates and Katie Aspel on Friday 19/11
Three classes were involved – Tori Hay 1/ 2, April Woods 3/ 4 and Nat Jolley’s 4/ 5. Our Art teacher, Melissa Thiele, Jae Gillett and Sue Dunn assisted.
The workshop was led by esteemed teaching artist, songwriter and Barkindji woman Nancy Bates, with the support of teaching artist mentee Katie Aspel - a proud Ngarrindjeri artist from Raukkan who uses her music as her own way of personal story telling.
During these song writing workshops, students learned about the importance of Songlines to create, share, and maintaining knowledge through song and they used these Songlines to explore ways to support Reconciliation and understanding of First Nations’ cultures and perspectives.
At the end of the day the classes combined their song sections of the one song. We are looking forward to receiving a copy of the song. The students were fantastic and enthusiastic throughout the day.
On behalf of the Aboriginal Education Team, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and safe and happy New Year.
Ms Sally, Ms McGarvey, Mrs Dunn (AET) and Jae (ACEO).
