Hackham East Primary School 2021 Wrap Up

As our school year comes to an end it is a time to reflect on what we have achieved this year and some of our significant events in recent times.

With the end of the year comes some staff changes. We are sadly farewelling some wonderful staff that have been with us for a number of years and welcoming back some staff returning from leave.

Farewells

This year we are farewelling a number of staff.

Ms Kas Hillan has worked in with our older students since 2015. She has also been a leader for staff in mathematics and passionate about teaching students to be passionate about maths and science. Kas sadly leaves us to take up a specialist Maths and Science position at Unley High School. We will miss you Kas.

Ms Caitlin Morton has worked with our Junior primary students over the past 6 years. Ms Morton will be missed for her cheery demeanour and love of a good ‘dress up!’ Ms Morton is taking up a new challenge with a Year 5/6 class at Southport Primary School and we know she will do an amazing job in this new role.

Mr Derryn Amoroso who has been with us for a number of years will be very missed. Mr Amoroso will be remembered for his ‘theatrics’ that he added to PE that made it very entertaining. Mr Amoroso could always be counted on to volunteer to help with out of hours school sports and activities. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Ms Rachelle Bennett has been a part of Hackham East Primary School for the past three and a half years. Over this time she has taught French, Year 6/ 7 and most recently in our Junior Primary area. Ms Bennett has accepted a position at Belair Primary School where we know she will share many talents and we wish her the very best.

Mr Sam Hage came to us mid-way through the year to work in our Primary Small Class. Sam quickly formed strong relationships with students and staff and won us over with his ‘cheeky’ sense of humour. Sam is taking up a position at Seaford Secondary College – all the best Sam.

Class Placements and Reports

Staff take great consideration in placing students in classes each year and every endeavour is taken to ensure the needs of all children are considered to support them.

All students who are continuing at Hackham East Primary School nervously but then excitedly participated in ‘Step Up Transition’ days this week, where they visited their new class and teacher for 2022.

Letters regarding your child’s class placement and Reports were sent home last Friday.

Parents of new Reception students in 2022, can call Lee in at the front office to find out your child’s class teacher.

Hackham Has Talent and Guard of Honour – End of Term Dismissal

Each year we host Hackham Has Talent on the last day of term. This is a showcase of students who choose to perform an act; this year we have singing, dancing and songs and even ‘mystery’ performances by some of our staff.

Due to COVID density restrictions parents are unable to attend this year. We will live stream it on the school Facebook page from 11.30am on Friday 10/12.

The Guard of Honour will start at 1.50pm with our wonderful tradition of forming a ‘Guard of Honour’ to farewell our HEPS graduates and staff. Parents/Families are asked to stay at the front of the school, please do not come past the gates near the office entrance as this is where the Guard of Honour will finish this year.

School then concludes at 2:00pm on the final day of the school year.

Thank You For 2021 – Onto 2022

As the year draws to a close I would like to take the opportunity to personally thank the staff, students and school community for your support in another year that threw us some ‘curve balls.’

We look forward to your support and working alongside you in the New Year but in the meantime wish you a safe, happy and wonderful break with your family and friends.

School resumes on Monday 31st January 2022 at 8.40am.

Kind regards,

Sally Slattery, Principal
