Principal's Message

I would like to start by congratulating Chris Sturgess, who has been made permanent to Marangaroo Primary School from next year. Chris does a wonderful job as an Education Assistant in supporting the students in the early years and we are grateful to have been able to secure her on a permanent basis. Similarly Kenneth Dawson, our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer has won his position substantively and we look forward to seeing what he has in store for us into the future. You may have noticed some painting on the outside of the library, which will become a mural that has been co-designed by Ken and some of the older students. We look forward to this coming to fruition in the coming weeks and months. Congratulations also to Vera Andony, who has secured a permanent position at Mount Pleasant Primary School starting next year - we wish her the very best at her new school.

This term we have seen the return of two valuable programs to Marangaroo Primary School in the breakfast club and the parent-run playgroup. Breakfast club is now up and running each morning from 8am, with a good turnout of students and parents so far. I would like to encourage families to join us in the Science room each morning for breakfast, providing a great start to the school day for the children.

We have enjoyed seeing the playgroup get up and running this term, with many parents of pre-school age children coming along each Thursday morning from 8:45am. The playgroup provides a fantastic opportunity for the children to play with one another, as well as to familiarise themselves with the school setting. It also provides a great opportunity for parents to connect with one another while the children play. If you would like to check out the playgroup, please make your way there on Thursday mornings. I wish to express my sincere thanks to the parents who have taken on the role of organising the playgroup. We intend for the playgroup to continue into Term One next year, and beyond.

Last Wednesday we held the first 'Kindy Cafe' for our upcoming 2022 Kindy children. It was wonderful to see so many parents and children in attendance to ensure a smooth transition to Kindy for those children. If anyone is aware of Kindy-age children not already enrolled for next year, please direct them to speak with us as our places for Kindy next year are finite.

Yesterday we had our final board meeting for the year. The school board plays an important role in steering the strategic direction of the school and I wish to thank each of our board members for their commitment to ensuring great outcomes for the students at Marangaroo. In particular, I would like to thank our board chair, Eric Jones, for leading the board throughout the year.

I'm looking forward to the P&C Colour Run this Friday and wish to thank the P&C for the tireless work they put into these types of opportunities for the students at Marangaroo. Just prior to the colour run, we are inviting parents into the school to join us for a picnic lunch. More details in the P&C section of this newsletter. We are very lucky at Marangaroo to have such a dedicated P&C!

Every three weeks, students with good standing have the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities provided by the teachers at Marangaroo. On Friday 19 November, instead of students choosing from different activities, we will be holding a slip & slide for all eligible students at the end of the day. We will post more information about this via Class Dojo shortly.

Report writing is well and truly underway and reports will be sent out on Friday 10 December. This semester, reports will be emailed directly to parents. If you don't usually receive our school emails, please phone us to update your email address to ensure you receive your child's report on time this year.
