CEAV Conference

The Careers Counsellors attended the Careers Education Association of Victoria (CEAV) Biennial Conference last week.  The Conference took place virtually, was very informative and we were updated about changes happening in the Careers landscape in secondary schools, the labour market and new resources and programs available.

One of the Labour Market presentations/workshops I attended that was particularly informative was surprisingly not all doom and gloom.  The speaker concluded with:

“Despite the pandemic shock, the ‘old rules’ still apply: employers are seeking staff with the appropriate education and employability skill set and, where possible, experience.

There will be changes and new ways of working but it is unlikely that whole industries, sectors or types of jobs will disappear.

Large employing industries will continue to provide many jobs and new jobs will emerge as the labour market continues to recover.

Youth are on the radar: there is a focus on diverse/subsidised training, support for apprenticeships and career planning.”

This was a very positive message to be hearing after nearly two years of a pandemic where students have experienced dislocation and disengagement, high levels of anxiety and continually been bombarded with depressing statistics about the world of work.  There appears to be cause for optimism.

Year 12 Results

Year 12 Results will be released to students at 7:00am on 16th December.  Good luck to the Class of 2021 as they await these results.  We hope you are all delighted with your achievements and feel positive about your resilience and survival over the two years of your VCE program.  We congratulate all of the Year 12 Class of 2021 on safely reaching this point in the year.

All VCE students who are applying for courses through VTAC and have paid the VTAC course application fee will automatically receive a printed ATAR statement if they qualify for an ATAR.  This is mailed to the postal address listed on your VTAC account.  Application fees must be paid, and postal addresses finalised, by 5:00pm, Friday 10th December.

Students who are not applying through VTAC can still access their ATAR and VCE results online, free of charge, at the Results and ATAR website.  If you wish to purchase a printed ATAR statement, you can do so by using the Request for VTAC Documentation form after results are released on Thursday 16th December.

Change of preference closes at 4:00pm on Monday 20th December.  Tertiary institutions provide a range of seminars, workshops and hotlines to assist applicants with changing their preferences.  In addition, a pack of information about accessing VCE Results and the ATAR, the timeline from the Careers perspective for the remainder of this year through to offers in January / February of 2022, Change of Preference details and the availability of Careers staff after the release of VCE Results has been mailed home to all the Year 12 students.  If you did not receive your pack please get in touch and we will arrange for a replacement.

Christmas and Holiday Good Wishes

Careers staff would like to wish all our Year 12 students, in particular, a restful and happy break before they embark on their life beyond Aitken.  You have done an amazing job to reach the end of the 2021 academic year after a very difficult, exhausting and challenging twelve months.  Warmest wishes from B21 to all the Aitken College community for a peaceful break and a safe, healthy and merry Christmas period.  We are looking forward to again welcoming students to B21 in 2022.
