Secondary 9/10

9/10 A

It was so wonderful to have the students back in the classroom for Term 4. The students have made the most of their time in the classroom and settled back into school life with a positive mindset. This term, the students have enjoyed building Drag Racers in STEAM, creating advertisements in Writing, exploring money and fractions in Math through real world connections and analysing the ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjama’s’ in Reading. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of the students in 9/10A this year and have been blown away by the growth, resilience and learning that has taken place in such a roller coaster year.

9/10B

Secondary 9/10B have made a strong return to onsite learning and brought a positive vibe to the classroom. We have worked hard on creating resumes and cover letters in preparation for attaining jobs. We also enjoyed creating mock interview scenarios within the classroom and improving our answering interview question skills. During Math sessions, we have enjoyed creating a ‘real-world’ budget where the students were given a mock job with an income and then had to create a budget to cover life's bills and determine what was a need or a want.

Our final unit in Math was fractions and the students engaged in this learning and a hands on (eating) experience was created. The students used chocolate, chips, cookies and pizza to work out quarters, thirds, fifths, eighths and whole.

I wish all of the 9/10B students the best for 2022, and hope the learning is a smooth process.

9/10 C

Secondary 9/10C has made a strong return to onsite learning and have enjoyed getting back in the swing of the classroom before the year is out. We were very busy designing and building wooden drag racers, using our money skills in Math to follow a budget and carry out a book study of ‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas.

As the end of the year came around we thoroughly earned some relaxing rewards. Our section trip to Latitude had everybody jumping with joy. Finally we wound down in the MILE room by sorting our class into Hogwarts houses and creating some artefacts from the fictional world of wizards and witches.

Despite the challenges we faced this year, 9/10C are rightfully proud of all of our efforts this year and re looking forward to next year's opportunities.

9/10 D

Secondary 9/10D have had a great Term 4, finally returning face to face. We have enjoyed developing our resumes, cover letters and completing mock interviews. Some students used these skills and applied for part time positions and were successful in gaining interviews.

We had a great day for our end of term celebration, we enjoyed heading to the park for a BBQ and then venturing on to Latitude. It was great to celebrate all our work and resilience we have shown throughout the year.

We wish all of 9/10D the best for next year.

9/10 E

Secondary 9/10E returned to the classroom this term full of enthusiasm and settled quickly back into the school routine. We have been learning essential financial skills and fractions.

We analysed ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, an historical fiction novel set in World War II in Nazi Germany and explored Greek Mythology through our text, ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief’.

Students created their first resume, practiced filling out job applications and improving their interview skills. We were excited to finish off the term with an end of year celebration at Latitude followed by a BBQ.

9/10 F

Well done to all of the students in Secondary 9/10F, they have worked very hard this term and have achieved a great deal.  Term 4 started in Remote Learning however, all students who returned showed that they were willing to roll up their sleeves and get on with their learning; well done.

Highlights have included making slime in the Discovery centre, learning how to make a frog in a pond, learning about renewable energy, social competencies and the rich discussions that took place about the dangers of vaping, smoking and alcohol, Fit for Life including mini-golf and a morning at Binnak Park, learning about money and fractions and much, much more.

A real highlight of Term 4 was when Etaoin dropped in with Levi on WebEx.  The students were unanimous that Levi was absolutely adorable.

9/10 G

What a rollercoaster of a year! This term we celebrated being face to face with our learning. Highlights of the term were having fun learning about fractions by making pizzas, learning about World War 2 through the text ‘The boy in the striped pyjamas’ and completing mock job interviews. We celebrated differences in our world by looking at diversity in race, sexuality and disabilities.

Our visit to Latitude and mini golf was a great way to celebrate the end of a challenging year. Congratulations to all students in 9/10G for showing kindness throughout the year, you are all growing up into such mature and respectful young adults and I couldn’t be prouder!

9/10 H

What a year & what a class! 9/10H made the most out of returning to the classroom and focused on reconnecting with each other and the community. We picked up right where we left off- exploring our interests, passions and fears through Experience Days to develop our resilience and build our emotional vocabulary. The students participated in a range of workshops including building glass mosaics, terrariums and ceramics using a pottery wheel. Through these experiences, the students practiced having a growth mindset and discovered some new activities they enjoyed (or didn’t but tried their best anyway which is perfectly okay too!).

We finished the year with a bang at Latitude and Tunzafun, celebrating the growth & resilience each student demonstrated during another wild year. We hope that the students are proud of themselves for all they’ve achieved this year- academically & emotionally, as we certainly are!!

9/10 I

Who knew we would have another year of crazy lockdowns and the yo-yoing of Remote learning!  However, I am amazed by all the students support and encouragement towards each other each day regardless of being online or in the classroom.  This term students have strengthened their friendships through the different challenges they had to face each week for our Experience Days.

It has been amazing to be able to finish the year back in the classroom and out in the community to continue to develop their resilience and having a go at new things.  Students had the opportunity to explore their emotional response to new activities each week.  It was terrific to hear positive responses about each activity and how that activity made them feel.

Students had the opportunity to challenge themselves by taking part in various workshops, like making glass mosaics, designing living landscapes, getting their hands dirty in pottery and even having a go on a pottery wheel.  Students were active and taking themselves to new heights at Latitude and finishing the year off with a roar at Tunzafun.

Secondary 9/10I has had a roller coaster of a year but should be proud of all their successes they have achieved.
