From the Board

We have some exciting new Presentation Families projects underway, focused on resources to support the holistic wellbeing of St Mary's College students. These resources will also support staff and parents in collectively engaging with students so that they may flourish.

The following resources have been made possible through funding from the College's previous Parents and Friends' program and the Presentation Families levy.

SchoolTV

The College will soon share with you how to access SchoolTV—a streamlined, aggregated online wellbeing platform for schools and parents. SchoolTV addresses the modern-day realities of raising safe, happy and resilient young people using credible and sound information from a range of experts. Realistic and practical strategies are shared through the platform via videos, fact sheets, suggested books, apps and a website to support students' wellbeing.

Senior School gym

To enhance our student and staff health and wellbeing, and the HPE teaching and learning program, funding has been provided for the purchase of two bluetooth portable speakers, a class set of yoga/pilates mats and two commercial grade treadmills. These will be a wonderful addition to the Senior School gym for use during class and break time and will be available for the start of Term 1, 2022.

Junior School equipment

To encourage students to be active outside and to interact with their peers in a positive environment, we have ordered 'loose parts' play equipment, large pine blocks and outdoor cushions for the Junior School.  A sensory wall is also being built within the Junior School playground which will complement the new garden area.

Outdoor table tennis tables

Two outdoor table tennis tables have been ordered and will be located in the Senior School grounds, providing a great opportunity for active play in 2022.

Library resources

In order to improve student literacy and promote reading for pleasure, our Library staff have identified some terrific books designed specifically for emerging readers in secondary school. Funding has also been provided to accommodate student-led requests. The following titles have been purchased:

  • The Disconnect
  • Stay a Little Longer
  • The Pavee and the Buffer Girl
  • The Humiliations of Welton Blake
  • Take Me With You When You Go
  • Self/less
  • The Woods are Always Watching
  • Obsidio

We are sourcing some Australian titles to increase our collection of Australian recommended young adult fiction, including Anything But Fine and I am Out With Lanterns.
